Congenital Hip Dislocation in Children

What is Congenital Hip Dislocation in Children?

Congenital hip dislocation a condition that occurs in babies due to congenital developmental defects of the hip joint and surrounding structures. Normally, the hip joint functions stably, with the head of the femur fitting into the grooved depression of the hip bone, appropriately called the acetabulum. However, in the case of a congenital hip dislocation, this adjustment is not achieved and the hip joint is not stable.

Symptoms may include different leg lengths, asymmetrical legs, limited leg movement, or clicking in the hips. Early diagnosis and treatment is important because a hip dislocation can progress and cause permanent problems. Babies should have their hips checked during routine checkups. Treatment varies depending on the baby’s age and the severity of the hip dislocation and usually focuses on supporting your child’s normal hip development. It is more common in girls than boys, and a family history of hip dislocations increases the risk of this condition.

What are the Symptoms of Congenital Hip Dislocation in Children?

Congenital hip dislocation nital hip dislocations occur in babies due to congenital developmental defects of the hip joint and surrounding structures. In this condition, the hip joint does not properly fit the femoral head into the grooved depression of the hip bone. Symptoms of congenital hip dislocation in children may include:

  • Leg Length Difference: One leg may appear shorter than the other or the legs may be unequal.
  • Pili Asymmetry: There is asymmetry in the fold folds at the hip.
  • Asymmetry of the Legs: The legs are not symmetrical, one leg may be further out or inward than the other.
  • Restricted Leg Movements: The baby cannot move one or both legs freely or has restrictions in the movements of the hip joints.
  • Clicking in the Hip: A clicking sensation in the hip area may indicate a problem with the stability of the hip joint.
  • Limping: Children beginning to walk may experience limping or significant changes in walking style.

A congenital hip dislocationcan lead to permanent disability if not diagnosed and treated early. This is why babies should have their hips checked during routine checkups. If any of the above symptoms occur, an orthopedist should be consulted immediately. As an MSM clinic, we offer services for the early detection and effective treatment of orthopedic problems such as congenital hip dislocation with a team of experts.

How is Congenital Hip Dislocation Treated in Children?

A congenital hip  dislocation can cause permanent problems if not diagnosed and treated early. As an MSM clinic, we support your child’s healthy hip development with the right treatment.

Treatment process:

  • Examination and Diagnosis: Our team of experts will conduct a detailed examination to make the correct diagnosis. If necessary, imaging procedures are also used.
  • Conservative treatment: In mild cases, a specially designed hip splint or other conservative treatment method may be recommended for your baby. This helps to support the development of the hip joint and keep it in the correct position.
  • Pavlik bandage: In some cases, special devices such as the Pavlik bandage can be used. This bandage supports the development of the hip joint by keeping the baby’s legs in a certain position.
  • Reduction and Casting: In more severe cases, reduction (insertion) followed by a cast may be required to correct the hip dislocation. This method reduces pressure on the hip joint and ensures recovery in the correct position.
  • Surgical intervention: In rare cases when conservative treatment options fail or when the hip dislocation is very severe, surgical intervention may be necessary. Our team of experts will evaluate and advise you on the surgical options best suited to your child’s condition.
  • Regular follow-up care and rehabilitation: Throughout the treatment process, we will closely monitor your child ‘s progress and update the treatment plan as necessary. We also help your child gain strength and normal mobility through rehabilitation programs. Contact us to ensure your child’s healthy growth and development.
