What is Hip Calcification?

Hip calcification is a condition that occurs as a result of the wear and deterioration of the cartilage tissue on the hip joint surfaces over time. Cartilage tissue is located at the ends of the bones and helps perform joint movements smoothly. However, cartilage wear may occur as a result of various factors.

As a result of this wear, the friction between the bones increases and over time, symptoms such as pain, stiffness and limitation of movement occur in the joint. Although hip arthritis is generally associated with the aging process, in some cases factors such as trauma, genetic predisposition, excess weight, or rheumatic diseases may also play a role.

  • Hip Pain: One of the most common symptoms of hip arthritis is pain felt in the hip area. There is pain radiating to the groin area. This pain may become more noticeable after moving or sitting for long periods of time.
  • Limitation of Movement: Hip arthritis can reduce your hip joint range of motion. You may have difficulty with movements such as bending, turning or reaching.
